This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the grinding of metal matrix composites. Experimental tests have been carried out on various types of AlSiC composites under different machining conditions. The analyses of chip morphology, of the ground surfaces and the trend of the forces acquired during grinding, permit to evidence the peculiar aspects of these materials in grinding. Main results concern the effects of the reinforcement, the matrix types and the machining parameters on the surface characteristics and the wheel wear.

Abstract
This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the grinding of metal matrix composites. Experimental tests have been carried out on various types of AlSiC composites under different machining conditions. The analyses of chip morphology, of the ground surfaces and the trend of the forces acquired during grinding, permit to evidence the peculiar aspects of these materials in grinding. Main results concern the effects of the reinforcement, the matrix types and the machining parameters on the surface characteristics and the wheel wear.Questo articolo è pubblicato sotto una Licenza Licenza Creative Commons
