Pancreatic and duodenal homeobox 1 (PDX1) is a well-studied transcription factor required for pancreas organogenesis. PDX1 mutations are associated with the development of diabetes. An 8-month-old female patient with previously uncharacterized compound heterogeneous PDX1 missense mutations (Thr151Met and Asn196Thr) was identified in this study. The patient has permanent neonatal diabetes, pancreas hypoplasia, and a malformed gallbladder.
