In this contribution, will be shown that the growth law of actual nuclei derived in Scripta Materialia, 267 (2025) 116799, is incorrect. In fact, whenever the Avrami model is invoked for modeling phase transformation kinetics, one cannot avoid introducing what Avrami calls phantom nuclei. These are a direct consequence of the assumption on which the Avrami model is based. In the commented paper this unavoidable request is overlooked. Here, we discuss the role of phantom nuclei and evaluate the effect of their exclusion from the calculation of the growth kinetics of the actual crystals.
