We describe through a phenomenological model the reactive interface formation between Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 and Fe, Cr and Ge overlayers. Adatom clustering, surface chemical reaction and diffusion of the reacted species have been evidenced by core level emission spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning tuneling microscopy (STM).
