In Philoctetes Sophocles gives great relevance to the relationship between the protagonist and the natural environment of the island of Lemnos; the hero, abandoned by his comrades-in-arms because of his infected wound, lives here for ten years in total solitude. The present work analyses in particular the passages (vv. 927-62, 1081-1217, 1452- 68) in which this relationship emerges strongly, through the use of refined expressive procedures and metric-rhythmic score. The originality of the theme proposed by Sophocles has influenced revisitations of the play in modern and contemporary times; some significant examples of rewritings, chosen from different eras, are cited here.

Abstract
In Philoctetes Sophocles gives great relevance to the relationship between the protagonist and the natural environment of the island of Lemnos; the hero, abandoned by his comrades-in-arms because of his infected wound, lives here for ten years in total solitude. The present work analyses in particular the passages (vv. 927-62, 1081-1217, 1452- 68) in which this relationship emerges strongly, through the use of refined expressive procedures and metric-rhythmic score. The originality of the theme proposed by Sophocles has influenced revisitations of the play in modern and contemporary times; some significant examples of rewritings, chosen from different eras, are cited here.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
