The biography and artistic production of the Italian-Moroccan rapper Baby Gang can be read as a ‘educational narrative’ of post-colonial citizenship in the context of the dominant model of ‘differential inclusion’ reserved for immigrants in Italy and Europe. Starting with a critical narrative analysis conducted on a repertoire of Baby Gang songs and music videos, the article explores the emerging tension between the call-out of instances of social in/justice of the postcolonial rap and the capture, or instrumentalisation, of postcolonial identities by the music industry. From this perspective, on the one hand the enactment of a ‘cancel subculture’ from above is problematized and, on the other hand, the racialized social identities and discourses of social in/justice emerging from the analysis is discussed along with their epistemological and pedagogical implications.

Abstract
The biography and artistic production of the Italian-Moroccan rapper Baby Gang can be read as a ‘educational narrative’ of post-colonial citizenship in the context of the dominant model of ‘differential inclusion’ reserved for immigrants in Italy and Europe. Starting with a critical narrative analysis conducted on a repertoire of Baby Gang songs and music videos, the article explores the emerging tension between the call-out of instances of social in/justice of the postcolonial rap and the capture, or instrumentalisation, of postcolonial identities by the music industry. From this perspective, on the one hand the enactment of a ‘cancel subculture’ from above is problematized and, on the other hand, the racialized social identities and discourses of social in/justice emerging from the analysis is discussed along with their epistemological and pedagogical implications.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
