Riti e culti presso il santuario urbano di Campetti, area sud-ovest, a Veio (RM): edifici, culti, percorsi e azioni rituali

The archaeological complex lies on the plateau of the city of Veii, in the vicinity of the ancient Portonaccio Gate. It is arranged on two natural terraces and represents one of the most interesting novelties among the cult areas of the Archaic and Late Archaic period in the Etruscan town. The site presents a complex stratigraphic sequence (late 9th century BC - modern period) and during the Archaic period was an urban sanctuary with a separate sacred area on each terrace. This paper will present an overview of the ritual aspects attested between the 7th and 4th century BC. It will start by describing the principal sacred buildings and the deities worshipped, and then reconstruct the pathways and the ritual actions identified (areas for sacrifices). Special attention is devoted to a series of votive deposits that can be connected to rituals of foundation, re-consecration and abandonment of specific buildings, like the sanctuary on the lower terrace.
