This paper presents a historical and technical analysis of the Harmonic Drive Gear Design by taking into consideration the original patent by Clarence Walton Musser, the inventor of "Strain Wave Gear" and by studying a performance evaluation of it. The main original design peculiarities are highlighted, and the main characteristics are outlined using a numerical analysis of the operation principle and its efficiency.
