This paper discusses the possibilities offered by the use of the CDMA access strategy both in the area of low bit rate voice communications (mainly for transportable emergency networks), and in that of data collection/distribution. Simple, flexible and expandible networks can be implemented both in Ku and in Ka band, with minor modifications at system level. The paper describes fully decentralized network architectures and provides examples with reference to the use of the forthcoming domestic Italsat 20/30 GHz satellite system.

Abstract

This paper discusses the possibilities offered by the use of the CDMA access strategy both in the area of low bit rate voice communications (mainly for transportable emergency networks), and in that of data collection/distribution. Simple, flexible and expandible networks can be implemented both in Ku and in Ka band, with minor modifications at system level. The paper describes fully decentralized network architectures and provides examples with reference to the use of the forthcoming domestic Italsat 20/30 GHz satellite system.
