The article aims to discover the causes, for which in 1908 Vera Komissarzhevskaya decided to go to America as her first tour abroad. The idea to familiarize with the American people because the drama is universal, not local but international, could not have suddenly blossomed. The article analyzes the salient phases of the actress's artistic path and her political and civil commitment in Russia from the beginning of the twentieth century. It offers a new interpretation of the actress's events and decisions.
