The paper deals with the seismic assessment and retrofitting of masonry frames according to Housner’s studies. Starting point of the analysis is the evaluation of the acceleration of activation of the motion of the structure, and the consequent evaluation of the dynamic collapse condition. Moreover, the improvement in their seismic response is studied by introducing vertical restraints characterized by an elastic-brittle behavior, i.e. vertical rebars realized in composite materials. In this framework, a parametric analysis is carried out by varying the geometry of the masonry frames and the characteristics of the seismic input, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed retrofitting technique.

Abstract
The paper deals with the seismic assessment and retrofitting of masonry frames according to Housner’s studies. Starting point of the analysis is the evaluation of the acceleration of activation of the motion of the structure, and the consequent evaluation of the dynamic collapse condition. Moreover, the improvement in their seismic response is studied by introducing vertical restraints characterized by an elastic-brittle behavior, i.e. vertical rebars realized in composite materials. In this framework, a parametric analysis is carried out by varying the geometry of the masonry frames and the characteristics of the seismic input, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed retrofitting technique.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
