This paper addresses the definition and testing, through a network emulation platform, of satellite IP-based live video streaming. Specifically, a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) VSAT commercial service operating at Ka-band was considered as core network for IP data transport. This approach opens the way to the definition of a new live 'low cost - high quality' contribution model, compared to the classic Ku-band uplinks in use so far. On the other hand, the solution identified has to face some shortcomings that shall be carefully evaluated and are described in the paper.

Abstract
This paper addresses the definition and testing, through a network emulation platform, of satellite IP-based live video streaming. Specifically, a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) VSAT commercial service operating at Ka-band was considered as core network for IP data transport. This approach opens the way to the definition of a new live 'low cost - high quality' contribution model, compared to the classic Ku-band uplinks in use so far. On the other hand, the solution identified has to face some shortcomings that shall be carefully evaluated and are described in the paper.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
