The potential of such an approach makes it possible to obtain a wide class of purposely designed diamond-based structures characterized by specific functional properties. In particular it is possible to obtain conductive and semiconductive diamond layers. The production of diamond films, characterized by mechanical robustness and chemical inertness but also by properties of charge transport, is presently a goal in the field of materials science. Interest is chiefly driven by potential applications in the field of advanced electronics and nanoelectronics.
