The Social Pedagogy in Italy has a brief history. If worldwide does not have more than 150 years, in Italy, the development of the discipline, its practice and the training of professionals in its sector is much more recent (only 50 years or so) in the framework of the education sciences, particularly in definition of the epistemological status and their roles and functions in the prospect of education and social reality. The training of workers which relates to the theme of recognition of educational professions by the Italian State, has been recently regulated by a state law. This fact contributes, in the academic community, to open discussions that articulate naturally to university education and conclude that a fundamental contribution to defining the scientific status of the discipline and its role and functions in society.

The Social Pedagogy in Italy has a brief history. La Pedagogía social en Italia cuenta con una historia breve. Lo que en este trabajo podrá aparecer en cierto sentido confundido e incluso contradictorio es el producto de dicha historia breve y de un proceso de momento in fieri con sus conquistas, su lentitud, sus trastornos. Si a nivel mundial la Pedagogía social no tiene más de alrededor de 150 años, en Italia el desarrollo de la disciplina, su práctica y la formación de los profesionales del sector se resiente este ser una recién nacida (con apenas 50 años o poco más) en el marco de las Ciencias de la Educación: en particular en la definición del estatuto epistemológico y de sus papeles y funciones en el panorama de la educación y de la realidad social; la formación de los operadores, además, que enlaza con el tema más amplio del reconocimiento de las profesiones educativas por el Estado Italiano, se reglamentó recientemente mediante una ley estatal. Tal hito está destinado a abrir en la comunidad académica espacios amplios de debate que se conectan, por supuesto, con la educación universitaria y que brindarán una contribución fundamental incluso para la definición del estatuto científico de la Pedagogía social.
