The volume is divided in two parties. The first regards the islamic criminal law as conceptualized by the fuqaha: the classification of crimes into three categories (qisas, hudud, ta'zir) is described through the lens of the comparative analysis of the different solutions proposed by the sunni and shia law schools. The second part discusses the process of codification of criminal law in the islamic world: from the Mediterranean to the Asian lands, the revival of islamic criminal law is analyzed and criticized in order to demonstrate how far are the modern states from the islamic legal tradition.
