Taking inspiration by the reading of the contributions that Amartya Sen and Martha C. Nussbaum devote to the revision of the dominant economic models of growth in emerging countries, the article revisits them in the light of a new paradigm known as "human develop-ment approach or capacity" (HDC), extending the discourse to the field of the geography in order to assess possibilities offered to this discipline to review, especially in Italy, its setting with regard to its role within the institutional policy.
