Ovid’s works, especially Metamorphoses and Heroides, had a major influence on the Orlando Furioso, as is already recognized by the sixteenth-century commentaries to the Furioso. There is both a direct influence on episodes of the poem and a more general analogy between narrative techniques. Especially important is the intertestual relationship between the episode of Perseus’ liberation of Andromeda in Met. 4 and that of Ruggiero’s liberation of Angelica in OF 10. Olimpia abandoned in OF 10 is closely modelled on Ariadne abandoned in Her. 10. The lament of Fiordispina in OF 25 echoes the lament of Iphis in Met. 9.

Abstract
9.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
