Il progetto architettonico della riqualificazione: qualità materiale dell'architettura e prerogative del sistema urbano

The assignment of new qualities lives together with two different timeframes: the long timespan of architecture which may even require the suspension of modifications in favour of conservation of the artistic and documentary value and the work; and the shorter time of transitory daily life, which remains an- chored to contracted time frames of habits and lifestyles. The upgrading of resi- dential neighbourhoods does not only involve the object, the materia signata, but rather the notion itself of urban space, its meaning. The rehabilitation design devices would therefore be much closer to the notion of a project as a communi- cative transformation, a transversal and intermediate place which keeps things together through their mutations, a work which transforms and protects the memories of the antecedent, considered as a prerequisite.
