Fact-finding and design-related aspects for the upgrad- ing of the CECA Italsider neighbourhoods in Salivoli Alto-Piombino (1964-67) and Villa Adriana in Ti- voli (1975-87). The preliminary knowledge of the architectural work carried out through investigation instruments and through a more specifically heuristic procedure, represents the necessary background of the upgrad- ing intervention. It should ref lect the “text” it is working on, running through its entire complexity and multiple determinations: the material aspect is linked to the construction, the formal aspect fo- cuses on the compositional aspects, and the his- torical aspect is pre-arranged for the evaluation of meanings. The upgrading project is therefore a fact- finding process producing two different operation- al levels: the formalized and unique solution to problems which is usually called a project; and the clarification of the operational and regulative crite- ria useful for further formalized solutions, gener- ally called guidelines. A double-track was followed for the research work on the neighbourhoods of CECA Italsider in Sali- voli Alto - Piombino (1964-67) and Villa Adriana in Tivoli (1975-87). On one hand, the research ac- tivity was carried out by using proven instruments, such as the philological study, the analysis of the archive documents, new designs as a form of knowl- edge, narration as a method of systematic story tell- ing of the event. On the other, the project, which is the form of knowledge and enquiry about the work, evaluates with specific architectural instruments and composition the limitations and possibilities justify- ing a modification strategy.

Abstract
On the other, the project, which is the form of knowledge and enquiry about the work, evaluates with specific architectural instruments and composition the limitations and possibilities justify- ing a modification strategy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
