In the third stasimon of Euripides’Electra (vv. 859-879) text (word and image) and metre (dactylo-epitrites) effectively interact to obtain a renewed form of the kallinikos ode, the song performed to celebrate the winner in the Olympic Games, before a formal ode could be prepared in his honor. This choral – exactly a lyric-epirrhematic dialogue with Electra – clearly shows the signs of Euripides’innovations, aimed to modify the traditional form and structure of the stasimon.

Abstract
In the third stasimon of Euripides’Electra (vv. 859-879) text (word and image) and metre (dactylo-epitrites) effectively interact to obtain a renewed form of the kallinikos ode, the song performed to celebrate the winner in the Olympic Games, before a formal ode could be prepared in his honor. This choral – exactly a lyric-epirrhematic dialogue with Electra – clearly shows the signs of Euripides’innovations, aimed to modify the traditional form and structure of the stasimon.File in questo prodotto:
