Abstract
On the occasion of his papal coronation, held in Aquila on August 29th 1294 in the basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio, Celestine V linked to that place a yearly plenary indulgence - still now in force with the name of 'Perdonanza' - establishing the direct historical and spiritual anticipation of the first Jubilee. With propitiatory purposes, in the text of the bull he prescribed that all the believers should celebrate that day with «hymns and canticles». This precept produced in Aquila, during the next centuries, two different musical traditions, both orally handed down: the laude, mainly connected to the activities of lay confraternities and mendicant orders and here examined also in relation with the outstanding merchant and cultural flows crossing Aquila during the late Middle Ages; the 'soni', that were instrumental pieces performed, at request of the municipality, along the main streets of the town in the eight days before the feast. Despite the lack of primary sources, analysing and comparing such phenomena was possible to dig up interesting excerpts of the original repertory, realizing also a significant relationship between the traditions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
