Digital replantation is an operation routinely performed in many specialised centres. Indications for digital replantation have been modified through the years by technical refinements and analysis of functional results. The authors report results and observations from recent literature and compare it to the experience acquired by the Reconstructive and Hand Plastic Surgery Department of the University of Bordeaux. Different opinions were divided into general indications and indications according to the amputation site. Finally, the authors discuss the problem of valuation of psychological profile and professional activity of the patient. This valuation is necessary to get a correct indication of the replantation.
