The essay offers a detailed analysis, from an ethnomusicological point of view, of the field notes written by de Martino and de Palma. On the base of a comparison with the recordings collected in the same expedition by Diego Carpitella and his own field notes all the cross references are identified, such as title of the songs, names of the performers, texts of the songs, comments etc. As a result a new understanding of the relationship between the anthropological research of de Martino and de Palma and the ethnomusicological one by Carpitella is proposed and discussed.
