“Oedipus and the Sphink”, a drama which was staged in Berlin in 1906 with Reinhardt as director, is the first one of trilogy planned by Hofmannstahl as a rewriting of Sofocle’s drama which was never realised. Defined as a Bildungsdrama, the work has a profound meaning in the intellectual biography of the Author as it is a starting point for an ethical modification which once and for all marked his stance of a poet completely uprooted from every moral responsibility towards the society.

Abstract
“Oedipus and the Sphink”, a drama which was staged in Berlin in 1906 with Reinhardt as director, is the first one of trilogy planned by Hofmannstahl as a rewriting of Sofocle’s drama which was never realised. Defined as a Bildungsdrama, the work has a profound meaning in the intellectual biography of the Author as it is a starting point for an ethical modification which once and for all marked his stance of a poet completely uprooted from every moral responsibility towards the society.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
