The authors carried out a long-term review of 37 patients suffering from chronic osteomyelitis with the aim of studying the natural history of the disease and identifying any prognostic factors during the initial stage of the disease. Analysis of the data failed to identify any reliable prognostic parameters available at the onset of the disease. However, the worst results were observed in cases of osteomyelitis which had occurred after open fractures.
