The present work shows that it is possible to increase the fatigue life of the Al 6061 / 20% SiCp composite, produced by powder metallurgy, by coating with sputtered Ti the external surface of the material. Fatigue tests have been carried out employing a rotating bending machine with a single end cantilever. Nucleation and growth of cracks at various steps of fatigue life were monitored by SEM observations on uncoated and Ti coated samples. The morphology of fracture surfaces was examined too.

Abstract
The present work shows that it is possible to increase the fatigue life of the Al 6061 / 20% SiCp composite, produced by powder metallurgy, by coating with sputtered Ti the external surface of the material. Fatigue tests have been carried out employing a rotating bending machine with a single end cantilever. Nucleation and growth of cracks at various steps of fatigue life were monitored by SEM observations on uncoated and Ti coated samples. The morphology of fracture surfaces was examined too.File in questo prodotto:
