Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) are a crucial event in the life and management of the hospital; they have a strong impact on organization and financial aspect of the health system. The implementation of surveillance systems for HAI is a basic measure for prevention. An effective way to set up a surveillance system for HAI is the monitoring of microbiological data of the hospital. This kind of system results particularly effective for prevention notwithstanding some disadvantages. Other kinds of systems of surveillance that can be used in case of limited resources, have been taken into consideration.
