This article discusses four unpublished liturgical hymns (canons), two of which are attributed in the manuscripts to a certain Peter, the other two to Abramius protospatharius. The liturgical commemorations for which these hymns are intended are all linked to Antioch-on-the-Orontes or its surroundings (the city’s holy bishops St Babylas and St Eustathius; St Palladius of Imma; the encaenia of a church of St Michael the Archangel in Antioch). The two authors are also clearly connected to the same city, and it is even possible to propose their identification with already known prominent figures of medieval Antioch who lived there after the Byzantine reconquista of Northern Syria (969).

Abstract
This article discusses four unpublished liturgical hymns (canons), two of which are attributed in the manuscripts to a certain Peter, the other two to Abramius protospatharius. The liturgical commemorations for which these hymns are intended are all linked to Antioch-on-the-Orontes or its surroundings (the city’s holy bishops St Babylas and St Eustathius; St Palladius of Imma; the encaenia of a church of St Michael the Archangel in Antioch). The two authors are also clearly connected to the same city, and it is even possible to propose their identification with already known prominent figures of medieval Antioch who lived there after the Byzantine reconquista of Northern Syria (969).| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
