This essay examines the pedagogical approaches to Modern Greek Language and Literature within the recently established chair at Tor Vergata University in Rome. It situates these efforts within the broader context of the challenges currently facing Modern Greek studies in Western European universities, marked by a decline in student numbers and institutional instability. The authors argue that language instruction must be firmly rooted in a diachronic understanding of the Greek cultural continuum, bridging Ancient, Byzantine, and Modern Greek traditions. By fostering collaborations with secondary schools and other academic institutions—such as the University of Palermo—the program seeks to maintain the vitality of the discipline. Ultimately, the paper underscores the urgent need for robust institutional support from the Greek state and suggests that the future of Modern Greek studies lies in a comparative, interdisciplinary approach that integrates the study of language, literature, and history into a broader European academic framework.

Abstract
Ultimately, the paper underscores the urgent need for robust institutional support from the Greek state and suggests that the future of Modern Greek studies lies in a comparative, interdisciplinary approach that integrates the study of language, literature, and history into a broader European academic framework.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
