This paper presents the initial findings of a survey on graffiti in the city of Verona. The study reveals that while graffiti is most prevalent in a few specific churches, significant examples exist in other locations as well. Beginning with an analysis of the nature, value, and historiographical status of graffiti as a historical source, the article then illustrates the primary, mostly unpublished, examples found in Verona. The research offers a comprehensive reconstruction of this rich and unique case study, providing new insights into the phenomenon. Beyond its informative value, the survey highlights new research avenues and calls for a re-evaluation of the heuristic contribution that graffiti can provide for both historical and methodological purposes.

Abstract
This paper presents the initial findings of a survey on graffiti in the city of Verona. The study reveals that while graffiti is most prevalent in a few specific churches, significant examples exist in other locations as well. Beginning with an analysis of the nature, value, and historiographical status of graffiti as a historical source, the article then illustrates the primary, mostly unpublished, examples found in Verona. The research offers a comprehensive reconstruction of this rich and unique case study, providing new insights into the phenomenon. Beyond its informative value, the survey highlights new research avenues and calls for a re-evaluation of the heuristic contribution that graffiti can provide for both historical and methodological purposes.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
