Starting from Tullio De Mauro’s essay on the phenomenon of the so-called Hate speech, this paper aims to investigate some significant examples of hate language in Latin literature. To this end, texts by Cicero, Horace, Seneca, Suetonius and Rutilius have been analyzed, with the aim of highlighting how certain specific categories of invective and verbal aggression reveal notable parallels with contemporary forms of aggressive discourse.
