This paper investigates the musical practices of guitar song composers in Botswana and Malawi, focusing on the transition between live performance and recording studio environments. Through the study of artists such as Stiger Sola, Batlaadira Radipitse, and Giddes Chalamanda, the research explores how the studio serves as a space for cultural creation and the pursuit of a "modern sound". It identifies two primary production approaches: collaborative multi-input practices involving various studio professionals and composer-led digital programming. Ultimately, the sources demonstrate how these musicians navigate the intersection of traditional oral heritages and the globalized recording industry.

Abstract
This paper investigates the musical practices of guitar song composers in Botswana and Malawi, focusing on the transition between live performance and recording studio environments. Through the study of artists such as Stiger Sola, Batlaadira Radipitse, and Giddes Chalamanda, the research explores how the studio serves as a space for cultural creation and the pursuit of a "modern sound". It identifies two primary production approaches: collaborative multi-input practices involving various studio professionals and composer-led digital programming. Ultimately, the sources demonstrate how these musicians navigate the intersection of traditional oral heritages and the globalized recording industry.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
