Some lexical solutions in strategic places in Paradiso xxiv and xxv may define the function of Dante’s profession of faith, as well as of St. Peter’s “endorsement” at the conclusion of Par. xxiv. The recurring use of terms relating to the military lexical sphere and others already largely used in the doctrinal tradition of Confirmation legitimises the hypothesis that, in Par. xxv 9, the term cappello means symbolically the augmentum gratiae acquired through the celebration of this Sacrament.
