The school is dealing with a black swan, with an unexpected event:closing the doors to the students and continuing to carry out its educational task in a situation of distance that is experienced, perhaps, as an absence. Although it is too early to understand what is happening after the suspension of teaching activities in presence, the impression is that in these days of emergency we are facing a ten-year idiosyncrasy towards teaching methods mediated by digital technologies, also because of national educational policies. The paper proposes some reflections on the scientific production about the «distance school»: the need for the primacy of the teaching method over technology; the difference between distance learning and learning in digital environments; and, finally, a reflection on the organizational model necessary for the functioning of a school capable of dealing dialectically with the digital dimension and the change it entails.
La scuola si sta confrontando con un cigno nero, con un evento ina- spettato e inatteso: chiudere le porte agli studenti e continuare a svolgere il suo compito educativo in una distanza vissuta, forse, come assenza. Sebbene sia presto per capire cosa stia realmente accadendo in seguito alla sospensione delle attività didattiche in presenza, l’impressione è che in questi giorni di emergenza si stia scontando una decennale chiusura, legata anche a politiche educative nazionali, nei confronti di modalità didattiche mediate dalle tecnologie digitali. L’articolo parte da alcune riflessioni della letteratura scientifica intorno alla «scuola a distanza»: la necessità del primato del metodo didattico sulla tecnologia; la differenza tra apprendimento a distanza e apprendimento in ambienti digitali e, infine, una riflessione sul modello organizzativo necessario al funzionamento di una scuola capace di confrontarsi dialetticamente con la dimensione digitale e con il cambiamento che comporta.
