Abstract

Through the investigation of two key concepts of the classical poetic tradition, that of «impossible believable» and «imitation», the paper directly illustrates the way in which Vico confront himself with the tradition, taking up its concepts and terminology but reworking them and transfiguring them in a profoundly creative key. Through a very personal rethinking of classical poetics Vico succeds in formulating some of the most important aesthetic concepts of Scienza nuova, which in their theoretical strength return fullness and relevance of meaning to his philosophy still today.
