The paper proposes an example of Rutilius Namatian’s complex compositional technique, starting with the initial makarismós (red. I 5-12). The whole passage reveals prestigious poetic memories in which the presence of Virgil is conspicuous, through a formulary taken from pregnant places of his production. The piece shows remarkable traces of the reading of Manilius, employed as a true Virgilian ‘gloss’, in accordance with scholastic practices.

Abstract
The paper proposes an example of Rutilius Namatian’s complex compositional technique, starting with the initial makarismós (red. I 5-12). The whole passage reveals prestigious poetic memories in which the presence of Virgil is conspicuous, through a formulary taken from pregnant places of his production. The piece shows remarkable traces of the reading of Manilius, employed as a true Virgilian ‘gloss’, in accordance with scholastic practices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
