Sources and the topography of ancient Rome: new theories and old problems. The numerous ancient sources about Rome can vary slightly in quality, but are so tightly linked to one another that every new interpretation leads to a reconsideration of them all in order to set forth a coherent topographical context. Two main examples will be examined: A) The [Nav]alia integration instead of [Aemi]lia on slabs no. 23 and 24 of the marble plan of Septimius Severus, set forth by L. Cozza and P. L. Tucci. This doesn’t only have important consequences on the topography of the plain south of the Aventino, it also gives us new evidence on construction tecniques and makes us rethink a number of other sources. Even a new localisation of the prata Quintia is suggested. B) Re-examining the sources about the Euripus Virginis quite many doubts arise because of the uncertain interpretation of the archaeological data.

Abstract
B) Re-examining the sources about the Euripus Virginis quite many doubts arise because of the uncertain interpretation of the archaeological data.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
