The Use of Data in Geography of Sport: The Case of the Lazio Region The contribution shows how sport has become a social element completely transversal to the human activities of our society, it becomes an explanatory expression of it. For this reason, understanding the relationship between individuals as part of a society and sporting practice is essential both for understanding the evolution of society itself and for implementing both sporting and other public policies. Up to this point we explain how the absence of data deprives everyone, scholars, operators and public decision makers, of a method of understanding and therefore of intervention that would make it possible to reduce dangerous social inequalities. The case of the Lazio Region, in this contribution, highlights the poverty of information and where this information exists, it allows us to observe worrying territorial asymmetries.

Il contributo mostra come lo sport sia diventato un elemento sociale del tutto trasversale alle attività umane della nostra società, ne diventa una espressione esplicativa. Per questo motivo comprendere il rapporto tra individui come parte di una società e pratica sportiva è essenziale sia per comprendere l’evoluzione della società stessa sia per mettere in atto politiche pubbliche, tanto sportive quanto di altra natura. A questo fine spieghiamo come l’assenza di dati privi tutti, studiosi, operatori e decisori pubblici, di un metodo di comprensione e quindi di intervento che permetterebbe di ridurre pericolose ineguaglianze sociali. Il caso della Regione Lazio, in questo contributo, mette in luce la povertà delle informazioni e laddove queste informazioni ci sono, permettono di osservare preoccupanti asimmetrie territoriali.
