Immigrazione e accoglienza agli stranieri: brevi note sul caso di Livorno in età moderna

The paper intends briefly to illustrate in a synthetic form the legislation of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany which in the modern age aimed at attracting foreigners of various origins to Livorno, trying to place that experience in its historical, social, economic and demographic context, in a framework of long period. This allows pragmatic-utilitarian instances to emerge, alongside the well-known aspects linked to the recognition of religious freedom and acceptance. The purpose is also that of recovering for historical-juridical reflection the results of a broad and recent modernist historiography that it is necessary to know, if we do not want to limit ourselves to a purely theoretical and formalistic approach to normative sources.
