The essay considers the nine registers of the diocese of Citta di Castello, whose richness and importance were highlighted for the first time by Robert Brentano in 1960. It focuses on the gatherings produced in the thirteenth century, their particular codicological structure, the tradition and internal organization of the texts, and the hypertextual apparatus, intending to shed light on the chronology and how the bishops of Citta di Castello implemented their << documentary revolution >>, starting from the beginning of the thirteenth century. At the same time, a typology of ecclesiastical cartularies is illustrated, presenting forms, editorial methods, and different functions from the cartularies produced in previous centuries and up until well into the twelfth century.
