The paper offers an analysis of the anonymous composition written in the late antique age De volucribus et iumentis. de filomela (762 Riese), also known as Carmen de filomela, included in the Anthologia Latina. The analysis is made on selected passages, focusing on the literary, linguistic and stylistic elements. The composition, of a total of 70 elegiac verses, reveals a clear scholastic and erudite origin. Its detailed list of animal noises, both of birds and mammals, can be seen as a poetic catalogue of voces animantium, as in the long fragment from Prata, attributed to Suetonius, in the section De naturis animantium (frg. 161 Reifferscheid, pp. 247-254).

Abstract
247-254).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
