The aim of this study is to examine the historical and legendary figure of the “irregular” soldier of the early 19th century, Marco Botzaris, a hero in the first phase of the Greek revolutionary uprisings of 1821, as it was elaborated in contemporary Italian and Greek dramaturgical creation, with particular attention to the opera of the Milanese librettist Giovanni Caccialupi and the Corfiot composer Pavlos Carrer.
