The book illustrates the beginning of the career followed by Pier Luigi Nervi which enabled him to become the greatest Italian engineer of the 20th century with an international reputation. Many of the rich illustrations and plans have been previously unpublished . The important relationship with Attilio Muggia, his professor at Bologna University and guide during the first years of his career, is revealed for the first time. The volume illustrates his first works for the Muggia company during his 10 years as an employee, then the work carried out by his own company, formed with Rodolfo Nebbiosi and includes his first masterpiece, the Berta Stadium in Florence. The book investigates in depth, the experiments, tests and patents that led the engineer to the invention of an original new way of building, based on prefabrication and on the thin structure named “ferrocemento” . The so-called “Nervi System” was applied firstly in a brief number of experimental prototypes, almost unknown and forgotten which are now published for the first time together with the original designs and photos during the construction, and then the realisation of his first great work, the Exhibition Hall in Turin, in 1948. After this masterpiece, Nervi built, in the fifties the works of his maturity that gave him a worldwide reputation, having developed the constructive solutions there applied. In the appendix a whole series of patents has been published for the first time that mark the fundamental steps towards his innovative building system.

Abstract
In the appendix a whole series of patents has been published for the first time that mark the fundamental steps towards his innovative building system.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
