Which psychodynamic model should serve as the fundamental reference in discussing the ontogenesis of personal identity? In this commentary, one of Barbieri's implicit assumptions will be discussed. He relies on the theories of several authors like Bion, Mahler, Lacan and Stern, using their suggestions as convergent elements in a unified proposal concerning human psychological development. Nevertheless, many of these authors outlined very different models of the psychological birth of the infant and his/her relationship with the object, which means in psychoanalysis the "significant other". Some recent contributions to Infant Research will be mentioned as well.

Abstract
Which psychodynamic model should serve as the fundamental reference in discussing the ontogenesis of personal identity? In this commentary, one of Barbieri's implicit assumptions will be discussed. He relies on the theories of several authors like Bion, Mahler, Lacan and Stern, using their suggestions as convergent elements in a unified proposal concerning human psychological development. Nevertheless, many of these authors outlined very different models of the psychological birth of the infant and his/her relationship with the object, which means in psychoanalysis the "significant other". Some recent contributions to Infant Research will be mentioned as well.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
