Based on the interpretation of logos as (mathematical) ratio, the paper argues that space in ancient Greece is defined as a projection of the human body and the world as a set of relations (logoi) and of the laws (logoi) governing them, expressed by articulated sets of words (logoi). Man and its body, conceived as zoon logikon, or animal r(el)ationale, act as a measuring tool of all that exists, according to the Greek anthropocentric view, that makes them the pivotal element in the (Shakespearean) world as a stage. From the Sophistic movement to Aristotle, from Aristophanes to John’s Gospel, there is a thread to be rediscovered.

Abstract
Based on the interpretation of logos as (mathematical) ratio, the paper argues that space in ancient Greece is defined as a projection of the human body and the world as a set of relations (logoi) and of the laws (logoi) governing them, expressed by articulated sets of words (logoi). Man and its body, conceived as zoon logikon, or animal r(el)ationale, act as a measuring tool of all that exists, according to the Greek anthropocentric view, that makes them the pivotal element in the (Shakespearean) world as a stage. From the Sophistic movement to Aristotle, from Aristophanes to John’s Gospel, there is a thread to be rediscovered.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
