L’Ottobre delle arti dello spettacolo : rivoluzione o evoluzione?

The October Revolution has been considered for a long time in every cultural and artistic sphere as a real watershed between tradition and innovation, between reform and avant-garde. Indeed, the Russian-Soviet avant-gardes were born in the humus of modernist experimentation, which generated the "synthesis of the arts" and the theatre was the ideal place for its implementation. The article focuses on the continuity of this modernist research, which the painters and scenographers of the Moscow artistic circle of Savva Mamontov began at the end of the 19th century. Their synaesthetic experimentation was transmitted to the directors, choreographers and artists of the Russian avant-garde. Vasilij Kandinsky had the merit of developing it in his pictorial, theatrical and theoretical works and of spreading it in the West.
