This article provides a critical commentary on Sim. fr. 260, 11-14 Poltera (= 542, 11-14 Page) in order to: 1) substantiate certain interpretations, particularly from a linguistic point of view (οὐδέ … ἐμμελέως … νέμεται); 2) illustrate the ways in which Simonides employs irony with regard to Pittacus (σοφοῦ; παρά + gen. and passive verb; φάτο); 3) specify the linguistic register of some terms and their function (καίτοι; φωτός)
