Abstract. The re-examination of two 7th-century ivory plaques with a prothesis from the sanctuary of Artemis Orthia at Sparta suggests their identification as mourning on Achilleus, comparing it with the iconography of the subject on pottery, and in relation with the fortune of the cult of this hero in Laconia.
