The composition of Hadrian’s Villa has suggested various ways to renew the architectural communication in the practise of contemporary design. To the realistic position put in place through the resumption of its marks, capable to formulate new observations on iconism and exemplified in the work of Louis Kahn, it is, however, opposed a metahistorical interpretive dimension, attributable to the experiences of Le Corbusier. In 1923, he introduced the chapter dedicated to La leçon de Rome in Vers une Architecture with the Baedeker plan, making the Villa an ideal reference, impregnated with tension and creative expectation: a vision that is tested here, starting from the analogy between the sketches of the Pecile basins (Voyage d’Orient of 1911) and the Capitol of Chandigarh, more than forty years later, in a narrative design proposition, aimed at questioning how today’s architecture can make memory of itself, as any ancient find.

Abstract
The composition of Hadrian’s Villa has suggested various ways to renew the architectural communication in the practise of contemporary design. To the realistic position put in place through the resumption of its marks, capable to formulate new observations on iconism and exemplified in the work of Louis Kahn, it is, however, opposed a metahistorical interpretive dimension, attributable to the experiences of Le Corbusier. In 1923, he introduced the chapter dedicated to La leçon de Rome in Vers une Architecture with the Baedeker plan, making the Villa an ideal reference, impregnated with tension and creative expectation: a vision that is tested here, starting from the analogy between the sketches of the Pecile basins (Voyage d’Orient of 1911) and the Capitol of Chandigarh, more than forty years later, in a narrative design proposition, aimed at questioning how today’s architecture can make memory of itself, as any ancient find.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
