The paper examines the problem of dedications made by people with Libyan anthroponyms in the tophet of el-Hofra near Constantine. The author notes the fact that in the area there are dedications in Punic and Neopunic, Greek and Latin characters, but there are no texts in Libyan language; it is probable that this absence is due to a difference in prestige between the different languages spoken – and written – in the Numidian kingdom, of which Cirta was the capital.

Abstract
The paper examines the problem of dedications made by people with Libyan anthroponyms in the tophet of el-Hofra near Constantine. The author notes the fact that in the area there are dedications in Punic and Neopunic, Greek and Latin characters, but there are no texts in Libyan language; it is probable that this absence is due to a difference in prestige between the different languages spoken – and written – in the Numidian kingdom, of which Cirta was the capital.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
